Update: L1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment
New regulations relating to the achievement of L1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment were introduced to comply with Ofqual requirements.
As a result, learners now must achieve at least 80% of the marks in each of the five learning outcome assessment sections of the final AIM XAMS multiple-choice question examination. Even if learners achieve an overall general score of 80% or more, but do not achieve 80% in a given section, they will be referred.
In response, the eLearning materials for this course have been completely redesigned with additional content together with a larger bank of questions to meet the amended assessment requirements.
Please see below a summary of the features of L1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment – January 2024 Version.
Course Structure & New eLearning Modules
The course is now structured as shown with the first three modules relating to the first learning outcome ‘Know the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work’.
Original Version & Articulate Rise
The learning modules will also be available both in a format compatible with mobile phones and this will be sent later.
Mock Test
There are now 230 questions in the mock test multiple-choice bank.
The mock test is programmed into five sections in order to assess the learner sufficiently on each assessment criteria in each of the five learning outcomes.
The default pass-mark is set at 85-89% for each section, i.e. requiring a higher score than the final AIM XAMS assessment.
In one sitting, learners must pass every section to pass the mock test. If, in the process of sitting the mock test, the learner does not pass any one of the five sections, they will be informed at that point. The learner should then re-visit the relevant learning module before re-sitting the mock test.
The mock test will present learners with 60 questions randomly selected from all assessment criteria. Each learner will receive a unique set of questions reducing opportunities to cheat where learners are seated in close proximity.
The number of questions presented for each learning outcome is shown in the table below:
Additional Examination Preparation
Learners successfully completing the mock test may complete the mock test again for additional practice and each time the learner will be presented with a unique set of questions.
Research
Unit 8 it’s a research unit and is optional as this is over and above the learning requirements and can be used to enhance the learner’s knowledge of this industry.
CSCS Mock Examination
A CSCS Mock Examination is located immediately after the final mock assessment. This module consists of 50 questions preparing learners for CITB Health, Safety & Environment qualification.
This module is time-constrained, and learners have 45 minutes to complete the assessment before being timed out.
Once learners have completed this module, they are given feedback illustrating which questions they did not answer correctly. Learners may access this module on multiple occasions in preparation for the CSCS test.
